START: Flashing Red Bell "32" (The Cows) off Stamford Harbor.

FINISH: Immediately northerly of the entrance to Stamford Harbor, between the Signal Boat and Green Beacon “3” on  the easterly end of the westerly breakwater.7.1

The Block Island Course Boats will sail from the  Start; leave Green Bell “1BI” and Block Island to starboard, to the Finish, leaving Red Bell “32” (The Cows)and Red Nun “2” to starboard. Course distance is 186NM.

  • 9:00am Start - Newport. The first boat will start at 9:00am, and the rest will follow based on handicap.
  • 6:00pm Finish – New Harbor, Block Island - If you can't finish by 6:00pm give up, turn on your engine and come in for beer.

Sunday

  • 10:00am Bloody Mary Contest (virgin of course) - Back by popular demand. Bring your own concoction. What you do with the mixes after the judges taste them is up to you.
  • 3:00pm Hors d'oeuvres - On the dock. Be ready to present your best hors d'oeuvres for judging in taste and presentation. Partaking requires participation!
  • 4:00pm Awards - On the dock.

Monday

  • Leave as you so desire or continue to enjoy the island. Be sure to check with your dock
    mates in case any of them want to leave early.

The Queen's Cup will be run off Newport, R.I and will include one spinnaker class for ORC yachts with a CDL of 10.5 or greater. The Queen's Cup has a unique starting system in that each yacht may start within a 2-minute window of the starting gun and their actual elapsed time will be used to calculate their corrected time. All helmspersons must have a current Group 1 sailor classification. This trophy was given by Queen Elizabeth II of England and formally presented to the Club by the British Ambassador in 1953. The former King's Cup (1912) was retired and is retained by the Club. This is one of the Club's oldest and most prestigious trophies with a notable list of winners.

The 168th Annual Cruise will begin in Stonington, CT, on August 3 with the Captain's Meeting and Opening Reception. On Sunday, Squadron Run #1 takes the fleet into New London and on Monday, Squadron Run #2 brings everyone into Greenport, NY. Leaving Greenport Tuesday morning, the Cruise proceeds to Sag Harbor with Squadron Run #3 to enjoy the layday on Wednesday, August 7. On Thursday the fleet will sail to Fisher's Island on Squadron Run #4, followed by Squadron Run #5 to Point Judith on Friday. The Astor Cup will take place on Saturday on RI Sound off Newport as the fleet heads home to Harbour Court for the final Cruise Dinner. 

Members are responsible for arranging their own berthing at each port. More information can be found below and members are strongly encouraged to plan early as these harbors will fill quickly.

First signal will be at 1200 Friday with the start at Flashing Red Bell "32" (The Cows) off Stamford Harbor.

Labor Day weekend's Vineyard Race is a classic American yachting event. This 238-mile course stretches from Shippan Point through the swirling currents of Plum Gut past Block Island, and on to the light tower at the entrance to Buzzard's Bay. Once reached, sailors return by leaving Block Island to starboard en route to the finish in Stamford Harbor.

Begun in 1932, it has attracted the finest sailors and fastest boats for nearly 80 years, and its intricacies and challenges bring them back time after time. Those who are successful nearly always credit local knowledge of these tricky waters and a good deal of luck.

The Vineyard Race was described in Yachting Magazine as, "The greatest distance races of the world have several things in common - a challenging course, competitive fleets and an interesting array of famous yachts. By those standards, the Stamford Yacht Club's Vineyard Race rates close to the top. Like a miniature Fastnet, the Vineyard has a combination of coastal cruising, where currents play a big role, a stretch of ocean sailing, and a mark to round - the Buzzards Bay tower - before returning."

The 2024 ORC World Championship will bring top sailing teams from around the globe to battle on Rhode Island Sound and Narragansett Bay for one of four coveted world titles. It is the first time in over two decades this regatta, which will be held out of the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court from September 27 to October 5, 2024. The event will include the standard ORC A, ORC B and ORC C divisions, but will also include Class 0 for the first time opening up the event to boats with CDL values up to 17.400.

The 2024 ORC World Championship will include a mix of buoy racing and offshore courses testing the mettle of all competitors.  Contact the NYYC Sailing Office with any questions.

The 2024 ORC World Championship will bring top sailing teams from around the globe to battle on Rhode Island Sound and Narragansett Bay for one of four coveted world titles. It is the first time in over two decades this regatta, which will be held out of the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court from September 27 to October 5, 2024. The event will include the standard ORC A, ORC B and ORC C divisions, but will also include Class 0 for the first time opening up the event to boats with CDL values up to 17.400.

The 2024 ORC World Championship will include a mix of buoy racing and offshore courses testing the mettle of all competitors.  Contact the NYYC Sailing Office with any questions.

  • 6:00pm Skippers Meeting - Get official start times and sailing instructions

Saturday

  • 9:00am Start - Newport. The first boat will start at 9:00am, and the rest will follow based on handicap.
  • 6:00pm Finish – New Harbor, Block Island - If you can't finish by 6:00pm give up, turn on your engine and come in for beer.

Sunday

  • 10:00am Bloody Mary Contest - Back by popular demand. Bring your own concoction. What you do with the mixes after the judges taste them is up to you.
  • 12:00pm Hors d'oeuvres - On the dock. Be ready to present your best hors d'oeuvres for judging in taste and presentation. Partaking requires participation!
  • 1:00pm Awards - On the dock.

Monday

  • Leave as you so desire or continue to enjoy the island. Be sure to check with your dock
    mates in case any of them want to leave early.
